| In the mid 90's Mark and fellow Cyber fanatic
Mike Rea bashed their heads together and created Bizarre
Beats, New Zealands first and only Gothic/Industrial/Dark-End
music specialist store.
They stocked an extensive range of imported and locally
released Cds, tapes, vinyl and videos. Goth and Industrial T-shirts
were also a popular buy. The store changed locations a few times,
starting in St.Kevins Arcade, situated in Karangahape Rd , heading
down to Auckland citys, O'Connell St sharing a basement with Techno/House
importers, Quaff Records, then taking up a back-of-the room position
at The Record Exchange and finally nestling down at Virus Clothing
, a cool upstairs lair of alternate/Goth/Fetishy clothing. A perfect
setting for Bizarre Beats. They stayed there for about 2 and a half
years making it a total history of five and a half years in business
before deciding to shut the doors for the last time and reinventing
itself in cyber-form online as so many of todays retailers do.
